Quick Takes - Trip Edition

Linking up with Jen for the next round of...QUICK TAKES. Because I'm still recovering from traveling, these are going to be very, very quick takes.

1. Last weekend we went to Western New York to visit my family. I always know we're close to home when we start seeing things like this:

2. Speaking of bears, my dad the hunter got one this year and I got to eat yummy bear sausages when I was home. (Vegetarians, look away.)

3. It has come to my attention in recent years that my parents altered the story of Bambi for me. Not in the usual way, which would be to avoid the bit about Bambi's mother dying. No, in our version of the story she still died - but of natural causes instead of death by a hunter. Apparently my father deemed the story "anti-hunter propoganda".

4. I just need to say one of my favorite things about blogging is reading other people's blogs that make my life feel kinda normal. I love that Ana and Brooke both have a 2 and 3 year old right now, because have I mentioned having a 2 and a 3 year old is waaaay harder than having twins?? Because they are both solidly in that special "infant puberty" stage but aren't quite on par in terms of skill level so activities that are suitable for both of them are sometimes hard to come by.

But you know what - I DON'T have twins, so I really can't say for sure. You know who has a 3 year old, a 2 year old, AND baby twins?? Rosie. And right now, she is the queen of making my life feel normal. So definitely go check all those blogs when you're in need of some assurance that your life is perfectly normal/comedic relief :)

I'm sure there are much more interesting things to read over at Jen's, so go!

  1. Bear sausage??? What does it taste like???

Toddlers are a trillion times harder than the twins sometimes, especially close together - John Paul is always wanting to do some craft that is just a *little* too messy to trust Cecilia with, or Cecilia wants to do some activity that John Paul is likely to take over with his superior skill (and she gets SO upset when he tries to help her)... I'm normally happy that they're close together, but this stage is making it difficult to appreciate!

I imagine it's even harder with girls - John Paul's emotionally a little immature, and Cecilia's very mature, so they're still pretty close in that area. I don't know what I'll do once the twins are old enough to voice an opinion!

    1. Ok technically it was half bear half beef sausage...but honestly I am so not a foodie, it was Cajun seasoned and it just tasted like...regular Cajun seasoned sausage I guess??? Hahaha I felt very adventurous eating it though, even though it's not the first time I've had it. There's just something fun about saying you ate a bear!!!

And I forgot to say that my guess is twins are harder when they are at the newborn stage and 2 at a small interval are harder at the toddler stage...and you have BOTH so you are totally my hero. I haven't gotten a chance to comment on your last few posts yet but I enjoy your blog so much!!!

  2. SO many things to laugh at-- that baby pic is hysterical.

While gearing up to watch bambi the other day Naomi was explaining the plot to Bernadette to remind her about it and she said, totally emotionless: "yeah bernadette, it's the one where the mother gets SHOT DOWN". At least it does not evoke any sort of emotional reaction from her, and no bad feelings towards the hunters either because she is always pretending to shoot something or someone down. Or maybe I am just raising a sociopath...

  5. 1. Bambi is banned from our house. Not because of hunting, but because it makes me cry. (we are a hunting family and eat LOTS of deer meat.)
    2. I have actually eaten bear, and it is yummy!!
    3. So pumped I made the takes!!

    1. Honestly I don't even remember much of the story but I'm glad you mentioned that - if the girls ever ask to watch it I'm saying NO!! Why do they have to make kid movies sad!! I always cried at the Land Before Time when I was little...

    1. I just love that nobody who is commenting sounds too disturbed by this...when I'd have friends over for dinner I got such a kick out of waiting until they were done eating to yell "YOU JUST ATE A DEER!!" and watch their faces turn white...I grew up eating it and never thought it was strange!! It's very yummy :)
